The Taft College Baseball team wrapped up their season opening home stand on Sunday with a 3-2 victory over LA Pierce College. Tyson Canfield got the start on the mound to throw 3 innings surrendering no earned runs on 2 hits and 2 strikeouts. Pierce scored 2 unearned runs in the 4th due to an error.
Seth Sorensen got the win tossing 5 innings out of the bullpen. Sorensen gave up 2 hits and no runs while striking out 2.
Nick Kawano led the Cougars offensively going 3-for-4 with a double, 2 singles, and all 3 of the Cougars' scored runs. Brendan Halstrom, Quintin Nakamura and Richard Ortiz all drove in Kawano once. Halstrom and Nakamura both singled and Ortiz doubled to drive in the games winning run in the 8th.
Chase Nistor worked the 9th inning to save the Cougar victory.
Taft College will travel to LA Pierce on Tuesday, February 14th to play game 2 of the series and start their 5 game road trip.
