Taft's Kanoe Bandy inducted into the CCCWVCA Hall of Fame
Kanoe Bandy, who directed Taft College women's volleyball for 33 seasons, was inducted into the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (CCCWVCA) Hall of Fame on Thursday. She was honored in a ceremony as part of the state banquet for the 3C2A State Championships at Folsom Lake College.
Bandy finished with 567 career victoris in a coaching career than spanned parts of five decades from 1987-2021.
She was selected the Central Valley Conference Coach of the Year seven times and NorCal Region Coach of the Year for three consecutive years in 2003-2005. In 2005, Bandy was honored as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) North Region Coach of the Year and was also celebrated at the awards banquet of the AVCA Convention in Kansas City in 2010 for her then 400th AVCA win. In 2015, the 3C2A gave her a Coaching Achievement Award.
Bandy is proud of her 2001 and 2017 teams who won the CCCAA State Scholar Team Awards.
Her best years in coaching occurred during a tragic time in her life when her sister and then assistant coach Keali'i Pearl was diagnosed with cancer. Her sister passed away from the disease in October, 2005. Driven by Keali'i's love and competitive drive for the sport, Bandy was inspired to coach the Cougars to three consecutive CVC championships in 2003-2005. In 2004, Taft had its best season under her watch at 23-3, placing fourth at the state tournament.
As Taft's current athletic director she got to watch the Cougars and current head coach Mallori Rossi reach this year's state tourney, the first by the college since that '04 season.
In 2019, Bandy accepted the Under Armour National Athletic Director of the Year Award at the NACDA's 54th Annual Convention in Orlando, Fla. In 2024, the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) selected her as recipient of the prestigious L. William Miller Award.
Bandy was a long-time CCCWVCA treasurer during her tenure in the association.
