A Celebrated Milestone at the First Taft College Student-Athlete Graduate Reception
On May 22, 2026, the proudly hosted first-ever Taft College Student-Athlete Graduate Reception at the Al Baldock Cougar Sports Center, brought the Cougar community together ahead of commencement for a night of celebration, connection, and gratitude. With approximately 130 people in attendance, the reception gave the student-athletes, their families, friends, coaches, faculty, and staff a chance to gather, make memories, and honor a remarkable graduating class.
This year's student-athlete graduates achieved an outstanding collective mark: 61 graduates earned 83 degrees and four certificates, while posting an impressive 3.32 GPA. Those numbers reflect the dedication, resilience, and balance the student-athletes bring to every season and every semester. Athletic Director Kanoe Bandy shared her remarks, "We are incredibly proud of what they have accomplished in the classroom, in competition, and across campus."
The evening featured appetizers, photos, a dirty soda station, and a special stole presentation to recognize each graduate. One of the most memorable parts of the reception came as Athletic Director Kanoe Bandy welcomed everyone in attendance and helped set the tone for a heartfelt celebration. Teams were also brought front and center as Ms. Bandy asked about their experiences, their coaches' impressions, and the favorite memories and moments that shaped their time as Cougars.
Time was taken to recognize the people who help make these journeys possible. During the program, Ms. Bandy honored the athletic coaches, staff, and counselor for their outstanding service and the lasting impact they have had on the students. Their support, guidance, and belief in the athletes continue to strengthen the Cougar experience in meaningful ways.
The excitement is to make the celebration an annual pre-commencement tradition at Taft College. The first Student-Athlete Graduate Reception was a joyful way to recognize achievement, celebrate graduates with the people who supported them most, and send them into commencement with Cougar pride.
