The Taft College Cougars opened up the 2017 Season at home against Feather River of Quincy.
Tyson Canfield took the tough loss; pitching 4.2 innings and allowing 3 runs with 6 strikeouts.
The home team could not mount any offense early in the game. Taft did not manage a single hit until the sixth inning, when Nick Kawano and Richard Ortiz each singled to manufacture a run.
The Cougars scored again when Ortiz hit a towering 1 out solo blast in the eighth, and once more in the ninth when Luke Lubiniecki tripled to drive in Dayton Wilson to finalize the score.
Will Moore and Dominic Tating allowed 3 more runs in the 6th and 7th innings. Seth Sorensen and Kaivon Kealoha combined to throw the last 2.2 innings allowing no runs.
