TC Baseball Stay Hot with 10-2 Victory over Reedley
TAFT, CA – Taft College Baseball was back in conference play as they faced the Reedley Tigers this past Tuesday on April 8.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the third inning with an RBI single to make it 1-0. But Taft quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of a pitching error to score two unearned runs and go up 2-1.
Taft added to their lead in the sixth when Yadriel Reyes hit a double down the third base line scoring a run, followed by another run after a throwing error, pushing the score to 4-1. The Tigers tried to claw back in the seventh with a fielder's choice to chip in a run making it 4-2. However, Taft put the game out of reach in the bottom of the inning with a huge six-run rally. Key hits from Ryden Walker and Manny Esparza, who each drove in two runs, powered the offensive burst. Odnal Rivera added a sacrifice bunt RBI, and Gaku Yamamoto capped it off with a double to bring in the final run.
Chase Phillips gets a win on the mound, going 6.2 innings with 2 earned runs and 5 strikeouts. Caleb Garvin and Fabian Cruz were both key parts out of the pen, both allowing no runs to score. The final score of the game was 10-2 in favor of Taft.
Game 2 against the Tigers will be played this Thursday, April 10 in Reedley.
