Taft Men’s Soccer Players Rack Up Conference Awards
TAFT, CA – After the 2023 men's soccer season in the California State Community College division, the men's program at Taft College garnered lots of attention. There were nine players who received honors in the 3C2A.
Sophomores Omar Marques, Andre Melgoza and Daniel Zamora were voted First Team Central Valley All-Conference, while Alex Castrejon (So), Emilio Gonzalez (Fr) and Miguel Salizar (Fr) made the Second Team.
Marques led the team with 13 points, while having a 2.500 SH%. Melgoza had 3 points and started in all 19 games. Zamora started all season as well chipping in with 1 point, 1 assist, and 2 shots. Castrejon tallied in 7 points, Gonzalez scored 4 goals and had 1 assist, Salizar appeared in 12 games.
Sophomore Anthony Santano was voted Midfielder of the Year, Diego Mireles (So) was Defensive Player of the Year, and Brian Tufino (Fr) was named Freshman of the Year in the conference.
Santano had 2 goals, 6 assists, and 8 shots. Mireles scored 1 goal, and Tufino started every game with 10 goals against with .55 goals against average, while having an 88% save average with 83 saves on the season, and 10 shutouts.
