The Taft College women's basketball team got off to a slow start and couldn't get much going offensively in a tough 77-20 Central Valley Conference loss to visiting College of the Sequoias on Saturday.
The Cougars trailed 20-5 after the first quarter and were down 38-9 at halftime.
Sam Washburn led Taft with 6 points, all coming off free throws. Mercy Montgomery added 4 points and 4 rebounds while Sydney Taylor grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to go with 3 points.
The loss dropped Taft to 2-20 overall and 0-7 in conference play. The Cougars will look to snap a 10-game losing streak on Wednesday (Feb. 5) when they host Reedley College in a 6 p.m. CVC game.
