Taft College Women’s Basketball Prepare for First Round State Playoffs
TAFT, CA – For the first time in the program's history, Taft College Women's Basketball had their ticket punched to participate in the 2025 3C2A Women's Basketball Championship for the second year in a row. The top 24 teams in the north and the top 24 in the south will compete starting Wednesday, February 26. Taft will enter the first round of regional play on the road in Redding, CA.
Shasta College is the host school and will be seeded #10, while Taft will be the visitors seeded #23. The last meeting between the two was the last season on neutral ground in San Mateo, CA, on December 16, 2023. Taft defeated Shasta 64-47.
Shasta finished the season second in the Golden Valley Conference with a record of 6-2 and 17-11 overall. Taft finished fourth in the Central Valley Conference 5-7, and 16-12 overall. The Central Valley is considered the 2nd best conference behind the Big 8 Conference in northern California.
Taft had its highest state ranking in school history in the Northern Region Polls at #9 throughout the season, while Shasta never got ranked. The Taft Cougars are #16 in the state averaging 70 points per game, while the Shasta Knights ranks #61 at 57.5 ppg.
Taft College Head Women's Basketball Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. shared his remarks, "I am super thankful and excited for Cougar Country. Our players have been working hard in the lab, and they are hungry. Throughout the season, all our players have stepped up in very big ways. So if you were to ask me who is the best player, I would say Kahree, Faith, Mary, Aaliyah, Tiara, Ella, Alyah, Alesha, Amaya, and Madyn. Let's go! It's postseason time!"
