Finland International Standout Commits to Taft Women’s Basketball
TAFT, CA – The women's basketball roster at Taft College has a reputation at times to recruit out of the state of California, but this time it is out of the country.
TC Head Women's Basketball Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. landed his second recruit from Finland. 5'9 guard/forward Oona Rantanen committed to play for the Cougars for the 2025-2026 season.
Rantanen played for Espoo Basket Team for the u19 Finnish nationwide Division I League averaging 8 points, 6 rebounds, 3.6 steals, and 2 assists. In the u19 Finnish Championship League, Rantanen averaged 6 points and 4 rebounds.
Rantanen shared her comments, "I chose Taft because I believe that I have a good opportunity to take myself to the next level both on athletics and academics there."
Coach Lagmay said, "Having Oona in our program will not only up the ante on our team, but I think she's going to surprise a lot of teams out there next season. She's athletic, positive, and wants to really succeed. Oona is hungry. Cougar Country welcomes Oona to TC Women's Basketball."
