Nevada State Champion MVP Commits to TC Women’s Basketball
TAFT, CA – The Black and Gold attack is getting even stronger. Taft College landed one of the premier players in the state of Nevada by having 5'5" guard Alabama Nieves commit to our Women's Basketball program.
Nieves hails from Legacy High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Legacy won this past season's 4A State Championship, winning the league championship back-to-back. In 2023-2024, Legacy went 16-0, but lost in the semifinals of the State Championship. This season, Legacy won the Regional Championship, and the league Most Valuable Player went to Alabama Nieves.
Taft College Head Women's Basketball Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. shared his excitement, "The season can't be here soon enough. With the commitment from Alabama, our program will be taken to a very high level. Alabama will dominate in every regard of the game including IQ, scoring, playmaking, relentless training, decision-making, and defensive reads. I'm excited to start teaching and coaching this young talent and join her on the journey to success at Taft College."
Nieves averaged 20 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, while shooting 54% from the field, 50% from 3-point range, and 84% from the foul line. She was Sky Division MVP, Team MVP, 4A Southern Region First Team, 4A All Nevada State First Team, and Southern Division Co-MVP.
Nieves added her thoughts on her commitment to Cougar Nation, "I signed with Taft College because I believe in the coaching staff, the opportunities they provide, and the resources available to help me grow as a player. I know this is the right place for me to develop my game and take my skills to the next level."
This Coach Lagmay's fourth commitment to his 2025 recruiting class.
