Taft College Women’s Basketball Makes Top 25 Academic Honor Roll Again
TAFT, CA – For the second year in a row, the Taft College Women's Basketball Program earned recognition for having one of the top 25 highest grade point averages in the nation's two-year college division.
Last year, the Lady Cougars placed 6th in the nation according to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). This year, the WBCA calculated Taft College at #15 on the Academic Honor Roll with a 3.185 team GPA.
Taft College has four Academic All-State Players who have accumulated a 3.5 GPA or higher this past 2025 season.
This will be the 9th season that Head Women's Basketball Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. has led two different community college programs to national prominence in the WBCA Top 25 Academic Honor Roll. Three seasons ago, Coach Lagmay's collegiate program was ranked #1 in the nation.
Coach Lagmay said, "It is an extreme honor when athletic programs are successful in the community, on campus, and on the court having winning seasons, and players ultimately earn their stripes in the academic arena. I'm very proud leading Taft College Women's Basketball on a national level and grateful to the administration for allowing me to hold such a platform to mentor our student-athletes."
