In an exhilarating display of skill and teamwork, the Taft College Cougars triumphed over the Napa Valley College Storm with a decisive 67-49 victory at the Sisterhood of Champions Tournament on November 2, 2025, in Pasadena, CA. This win marked a historic moment for the Cougars, bringing home a tournament championship after nearly two decades.
The first quarter commenced with Alabama Nieves setting the pace for Taft, sinking an early 3-pointer. Despite Napa's attempts at three-pointers by Aguilar, the Cougars took an early lead, powered by layups from Laila Gines and Nieves. As the period concluded, Napa Valley briefly led 19-18. The pursuit intensified in the second quarter with Nieves continuing her excellent shooting. Key steals by Kimiko Kennedy and Alesha Gordon bolstered Taft's defense, allowing Aubrey Aidan to extend the lead with a critical 3-pointer. At halftime, Taft led 41-32.
