Taft College Women's Soccer Team Gears Up for a Promising Season

TAFT, CA – Entering the third coaching season under Head Coach Lyle Martin, Jr., the Taft College Women's Soccer team is set to make a mark this year. Coming off a challenging previous season with a record of 6-11-3 and a notable first playoff appearance under Coach Martin's guidance, the Cougars are looking robust and ready for redemption.

The Cougars will be playing on their home ground at Taft Union High School Soccer Field, with highlights from last season including their participation in the 3C2A First Round State Playoffs. This achievement marked their first playoff appearance under the leadership of Coach Martin, signaling a positive trajectory for the team. Key upcoming games include challenging matches against Fresno City College on September 26th away and October 28th at home. Additionally, a rematch against Reedley College on October 10th at home stands as a chance for redemption after last season's defeat by a late game-winner. Another game against Reedley is scheduled for November 11th on the road.

"Our returners have set the tone from day one," said Head Coach Lyle Martin Jr. "They came in focused, disciplined, and hungry. Ready to elevate this program to where we know it can be."

With the departure of key players due to graduation, the team has faced some losses, but their absence paves the way for returning players to showcase their evolved skills and leadership. These returnees have been commended by Coach Martin for their discipline and readiness, setting a strong foundation for the season. The Cougars are also set to attend two professional soccer matches, which will serve as exceptional opportunities for team bonding and inspiration.

"The mindset of this group is different," Coach Martin added. "They're showing up ready, and that belief is going to carry us through the season."
