2026 All-Conference Honors Add Another Lasting Chapter to Taft College Baseball
Taft College baseball built its reputation on grit, polish and a belief that big moments belong to prepared teams, and the 2026 All Central Valley Conference Baseball Awards captured that identity in full. The Cougars did more than collect postseason recognition. They stamped their season with the kind of achievement that endures in program memory, standing as the only team to take a three-game series from eventual NorCal champion Feather River College. In a year that blended individual excellence with team-wide resolve, Taft once again showed why its baseball history carries weight across the region.
That signature series win over Feather River became the clearest snapshot of what the Cougars were all about. Against a club that would finish as the NorCal champion, Taft answered with poise, toughness and the kind of complete baseball that championship-caliber opponents rarely allow. It was not just a strong weekend or a line on a schedule. It became a defining reminder that Taft could rise to the highest level of competition, a classic benchmark that belongs beside the program's proudest accomplishments.
The all-conference honors reflected how many players helped shape that season. Sophomore Pitcher Julian Orozco earned First Team Pitcher recognition after emerging as one of the conference's most dependable arms, and he added even more distinction as a two-time NorCal Pitcher of the Week. Sophomore Pitcher Ryden Walker joined him on the Second Team, giving Taft a formidable presence on the mound. Behind the plate, freshman Catcher Roberto Madrigal collected Second Team Catcher honors, while sophomore outfielder Gaku Yamamoto landed on the First Team in the outfield after delivering the kind of all-around production that steady winning teams need.
The Cougars' versatility also stood out across the awards list. Freshman Catcher Landon Angelo earned First Team Utility honors, a reflection of the flexibility and value that can change a season in subtle but decisive ways. Freshman infielder Zaden Kekoa D. Sibal was named Second Team Designated Hitter, adding another young name to a promising core. On defense, freshman outfielder-pitcher William Glover and Julian Orozco secured Gold Gloves, proof that Taft's success was built not only on timely hitting and strong pitching but also on elite play in the field. William Glover added one more historic mark by setting the season stolen bases record with 36, a number that speaks to game-breaking speed and relentless pressure.
All of it fits naturally within the legacy shaped by head coach Vince Maiocco, who retired the program with 453 overall college wins and 378 overall with Taft College. Those totals tell part of the story, but the fuller picture lives in seasons like 2026, when a decorated roster, a landmark series victory and a fearless style of play carried Taft's standards forward. The names on this awards list now belong to one of the program's memorable chapters, a season that honored the past while proving the Cougars' identity still burns bright.
